Either generate the document as downloadable file or attach the document to a mail message. Now there are two more: store the document to File Attachment column using Document Workflow Action; and instruct the browser to send document to the printer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Document Workflow Action<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the action is to generate the document from the current or (a set of) related record(s) and stores it in attachment column of the current record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s setup is fairly straightforward:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-1.png\" alt=\"Document Workflow Action's setup\" class=\"wp-image-2931\" width=\"596\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-1.png 1192w, https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-1-300x125.png 300w, https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-1-1024x428.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-1-768x321.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In <em>Get data from<\/em> we list current record, any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/help\/4.6.18.aspx\">reference<\/a> column(s) to parent records and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/help\/4.17.aspx\">recordset<\/a> columns. Additionaly, we list lookup and summary columns that directly or indirectly point to reference or recordset columns. In other words you can generate the document for almost any <em>related<\/em> record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once column is picked up, you can select the document from the set of documents in the related table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last step is to select the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/help\/4.6.13.aspx\">File Attachment column<\/a> to store the document into. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While generating the document the action respects table and column&#8217;s access rights and document&#8217;s availability for the record (document&#8217;s filter).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of no related record is available the action will delete the document stored in the column.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New &#8220;Send to printer&#8221; option<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, we added Send To Printer option to the document&#8217;s properties. With this option checked, click on a document&#8217;s button, instead of prompting to download the file will open browser&#8217;s print preview frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image.png\" alt=\"Print document\" class=\"wp-image-2930\" width=\"839\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image.png 1740w, https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-300x119.png 300w, https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-1024x405.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-768x304.png 768w, https:\/\/www.teamdesk.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-1536x607.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 839px) 100vw, 839px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This feature relies on browser&#8217;s ability to open the file without the help of third-party program and thus currently limited to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PDF\">PDF<\/a> output format. However, there are known caveats due to various browser bugs and limitations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It&#8217;s not supported on Android; the browser will download the document.<\/li><li>There is a weird bug in macOS Safari. On first attempt it opens preview frame just fine. But if you cancel the preview and click on the document button again, Safari issues &#8220;web page wants to print&#8221; warning and an empty document is displayed. Refreshing the page before second attempt restores the functionality back to normal. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And as a final touch, document now reports its usage in E-Mail Alerts, Navigate and Document workflow actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enjoy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Generate and store the document using Document Workflow Action.
