New TeamDesk UI reaches general availability. Over the course of the last year we made bug fixes, gathered user feedback and made a lot of tweaks, and now it’s in final stage.

Let’s highlight changes, from top to bottom.

Database header

New TeamDesk UI: Database header part

In top menu bar we moved user’s menu to the left, separating user’s stuff (databases, personal preferences) from database’s stuff (Help, Support, Setup).

Table navigation now looks more like toolbar, with tables as buttons. The bar with sidebar control, new record button and search input now has white background.

Sidebar

Sidebar lost its dedicated pin button. It is always pinned on wide screens and covers the content on narrow screens. Sidebar’s content now scrolls separately.

Table-based views

Table, summary, timeline and crosstab views now use white background for the column header. We use table’s color to render the text on the header and the border separating the header from the rest of the data. Lighter shade of table’s color is used for group headers and even lighter shade — for even table rows.

We keep column and group headers on the screen. On the back scroll table header reappears providing quick access to the view action buttons.

Calendar view

Calendar view in new TeamDesk UI now features quick date navigator in the header. Clicking on the year allows you to jump between decades.

Tile View

Tile (as well as headline) view’s card background defaults to lighter shade of table color. We modified tile’s layout to better resemble contact card. If you set up the image column but the record has no photo, we display generic placeholder to provide uniform card look. If the view is set up with no photo at all, no placeholder is rendered, leaving more space for textual data.

Map View

Map view now takes advantage of the image if provided, displaying it on the pin. With no image column set up pins are more compact.

Forms

Form’s default section color in New TeamDesk UI now derives from table’s color. Form’s actions are moved to the free space under the tabs between the new button and search box. We keep them on screen while form is scrolling.

Footer

Footer now features “Quick Settings” button allowing you to adjust font size: Small, Normal or Large; and color scheme: Light, Dark or OS Default (light or dark, as selected in OS settings).

Migration

If you want to try it and you are database administrator, you can use orange Try New UI link at the top bar to switch to new UI temporarily. With Back to Old UI link located at the same place you can always switch back. If you think your users are ready for the change, you can change it for all users with Setup | Database tab | Labs | New UI. As an admin you’ll be able to switch back to old UI, regular users won’t.

Unless you use custom scripting and styling, we do not expect much trouble after the switch, the database should continue to operate the same way as before.

We’ll discuss migration of custom script and styles in the articles that will follow.
